"Forever Young" lyrics

"Forever Young"

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the light surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

This song is one of Bob Dylan's classics, recorded with his original backing group The Band for the album "Planet Waves".
A demo version of the song was recorded in New York City in June 1973, and was included on Bob Dylan's 1985 compilation album "Biograph". Its liner notes say that Dylan wrote "Forever Young" "thinking about" one of his sons and "not wanting to be too sentimental".
"Forever Young" was included on the soundtrack to the film "Last Waltz" (1978), which was made from The Band's 1976 Thanksgiving concert when this song was performed with Bob Dylan.
"May your hands always be busy" is a reference to the Bible's Proverbs 16:27, "idle hands are the devil's workshop".
will.i.am remixed this track for a popular Pepsi commercial in 2009.
Blake Shelton made a cover of the song for the family film "Max" (2015).
